General Discussion / Re: Windows 10
« on: March 07, 2021, 04:59:50 pm »
Windows 10 has 3 versions.  Win10 Home, Win10 Pro & Win10 S.  Home is for a home environment [laptops, printers, modems, etc] and has all the main features of pro save a few encryption features.  Pro is for business and besides a few encryption features, has more functionality for managing mobile devices, group policies, etc. all for business environment.  Win10 S is for schools and main issue is it only lets you download apps from Windows store which makes for a more secure environment which a school would want.  Other features are the same.  Basically for home use any will do and very small difference in purchase price.  Most people will opt for Home or Pro so as not to limit the apps they download.

General Discussion / Re: Wifi Router
« on: March 07, 2021, 03:56:02 pm »
Hi Marya, you have posted a question as a reply to Bill's question. It is better to post your question as a new topic so that we can answer it separately. Anyway, since we are  in a testing situation, I am going to attempt to answer you both.

For Marya's question about interference between the Fios extender and the Firestick, I think that it is a setup problem. I am not the expert in WiFi setup and we are not yet in an operational mode where we would have assign moderators to boards that are their respective specialties.

For Bill's question, I find it strange that the router is in a metal box. I would take it outside the metal box because it has got antenna and needs to freely send and receive electromagnetic signals. Try to take it out and just put it on a shelf to see if your TV works better.

This should be a new topic and not a reply under the iPhone recording topic. Please look for the new topic under "Setting Up New iPhone"

The simplest way is to do your own survey until the Tech Committee does its own. Ask around your friends.
I have Verizon wireless and I am quite happy with it. I have never lost signal here at the Peninsula and usually have at least 2 bars and clear conversation.
